Facebook Drone

Facebook consider drone company acquisition

Over the past couple of years, there has been plenty of debates on how Facebook collects and shares personal data. The social media giant has become the perfect example for how the digital age is starting to erode privacy. TechCrunch have recently reported that Facebook now plan to launch drones overhead to create satellite internet networks.

Technology from Titan Aerospace would provide Facebook with the means to create an online network in global regions where there is no internet connectivity. The Titan drones are capable of reaching altitude on a battery at night, but during the day they will be powered by solar power, astonishingly they are capable of flying for five years without ever needing to land. Facebook is one of the major backers for the current project, 'internet.org' which aims to bring more than five billion people into the modern age of technology.

There is nothing in the report which indicates Facebook's intentions to launch drones over developed regions. If you combine the future Facebook satellite network with Facebook's recent purchase WhatsApp, we should hopefully be getting free communication everywhere.
